The Pocono Mountains, or simply the Poconos, are one of the best destinations for a weekend getaway in the United States. This must-visit region of northeastern Pennsylvania is known for its well-preserved forests dotted with rocky peaks, glacial lakes and tranquil river valleys. It’s a popular destination for hiking, skiing, birdwatching, whitewater rafting and the incredible Poconos fall foliage. We compiled a thorough list of the best Airbnb Poconos rentals for all types of travelers.

We have been visiting the area for decades (and we aren’t even that old). Friends of mine have had mountain houses in the Poconos since I was a child and as adults we’ve spent many a weekend renting homes there. We’ve celebrated Mike’s birthday in Pocono cabins with large groups and even slipped away to others for lowkey couples weekends. I even worked at a summer camp in the Poconos through college – so we know the area and what to look for you when you book an Airbnb in the Poconos.

Some links may be affiliate links. This means that as Airbnb associates, we may get paid if you book after clicking certain links at no extra cost to you.

There’s no bad time to slip away to the Poconos – that’s the first thing you need to know. However, the area is known for seasonal activities so here’s what you should plan for each season.

Visiting the Poconos in the Fall

Autumn in the Poconos is simply wonderful. The fall foliage in the Poconos is the ultimate backdrop for miles and miles of hiking trails, mountain lakes and gushing waterfalls. You’ll also find weekend festivals in different small towns and venues in the Poconos like the town of Jim Thorpe and the ski resort of Shawnee Mountain. Autumn is an absolute perfect time of year to visit the Poconos. The weather also gets cooler with earlier sunsets so an Airbnb Poconos cabin with a fire pit is highly recommended.

Visiting the Poconos in the Winter

The winter months offer Poconos visitors a different set of seasonal activities. Many of the public and private hiking trails are restricted or closed for the winter season. Instead, ski resorts like Shawnee, Blue Mountain, Jack Frost, Montage, Big Boulder and Elk Mountain are the main event! Skiing, snow tubing and other winter activities draw visitors from all over Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and beyond. It’s also a great time of year to be cozy indoors, so look for a Poconos Airbnb with features like a fireplace or billiards table. Adult visitors should also look for a winter cabin in the Poconos with a hot tub or even a sauna.

Visiting the Poconos in the Spring

In the spring you find another shift in Poconos activities. If you’re an outdoor and adventure traveler you’ll be happy for trails reopening. As the snow melts off the mountains you’ll find high water levels in the Lehigh and Delaware Rivers. This mean epic whitewater rafting and kayaking conditions on the Pocono waterways (just pack or rent a wetsuit). The Poconos come alive in the springtime with budding trees and a greening of the mountains. It’s too cold for swimming in pools and lakes, but features like a hot tub and fire pit make a nice addition to your Poconos cabin rental. You can also bring the family to one of the Poconos indoor waterparks like Camelback, Great Wolf Lodge and Kalahari.

Visiting the Poconos in the Summer

Summer in the Poconos means long days and outdoor activities. Hiking, swimming and antiquing are some of the best activities in the Poconos in the summer. The summer months are great for renting a house on or near a mountain lake. Pocono cabin rentals on a lake mean you can take advantage of boating and even rent jet skis. Paintball, ropes courses and zip lines are even more summer activities in the Poconos. You’ll also see that whitewater rafting and tubing on the rivers is less intense and a great activity for all ability levels.

These 16 Pocono cabin rentals offer a great value and cover a range of amenities and budgets for any travel experience. Whether you’re traveling as a family, a couple, a friend group or a combination – there’s a perfect Airbnb Poconos accommodation for you.

Ready to Book an Airbnb in the Poconos?

If you’re still reading at this point, I assume you’re ready to book a Poconos home. Keep in mind a few tips:

  1. We did our best to give you prices that were available now – however many properties have dynamic pricing throughout the year and additional fees. Keep that in mind and check their final charges on Airbnb.
  2. Some properties require you and your group to supply your own towels, toiletries and bedding. Make sure to read listings fully before you book and take that into account when you book. Maybe a $200 linens fee divided 14 ways is worth the convenience for your family or group of friends.
  3. Check-in and check-out is often remote for these properties. Usually you’re emailed a keycode to enter the property so ask questions of the owner in advance because you will likely never meet them.
